Get the Word Out There

A new author’s book won’t sell itself. You need to take the time to brainstorm how else you might get the word out there.

I am up at the family cabin here in Waskesui, Prince Albert National Park, on vacation for two weeks. It is this park that has continued my love of northern Canada and I was able to think about it through the winter months as I wrote.

This past week, I put little postcards that I created through Canva and had printed at Staples, on the bulletin boards throughout the park. I also went for a walk yesterday after a rainy morning and passed them out to anyone I thought might be receptive. I had a few nice conversations come out of it. I also dropped some off at stores that have door fronts taped with advertisements or tables that allow a place for local businesses to advertise.

Today we went for a walk, I had my Northern Escape sweatshirt on, and a nice couple stopped to ask me if I was the author of that book. They had seen the cards on the bulletin boards. Pretty cool.

What is also cool is that the Friends of the Park bookstore that is selling my book asked if I would like to do a book signing this weekend, so I’ve been able to point people to the bookstore and the book signing in case they are interested.

It’s been fun experiencing this. So different from other summers where we lay low and rarely have a chance to interact with others.
