River Retreat Excerpt

Nodding, Grace took a sip, and then glanced at the paper. At the bottom of the first page, there was already a headline . . .

Double Trouble in Algonquin Park . . .

Grace pulled the paper toward her with shaky hands.

Police were called to Algonquin Park this past weekend when a body was found on the hiking trail in an area known as the Painted Cliffs. They are now searching for someone known to the deceased, but it isn’t clear as to whether he is a suspect in the death or if they are concerned for his safety. Coincidently, within the same area, there was a police presence at the Dumais Lodge on Thompson Lake. What occurred, if anything, is unknown at this time.

“. . . today,” Evelyn spoke just as she realized Grace’s distraction with the paper in front of her. “Grace? What is it?”

“It’s made the news,” she replied, her stomach lurching.
