Author Branding

What is Author Branding?

Author Branding is “an ongoing, continually evolving story that communicates what makes your work unique, and represents an implied promise to your readers of what they can expect you to consistently deliver.” www.thebookdesigner.comHow To Build Your Author Brand From Scratch (And Why You Need To)

It is your promise to consistently show up for them with a message and a style that they can relate to.

What is Your Brand?

You need to know who you are and what your message is so that you can send that message out to the world.

Who are you? What is your story? What do you care about?

What you care about will not only come through themes in your book, it will come through what you post on social media, the blogs that you write on your website, and the content that you send in your monthly newsletter.

Connecting with your audience and creating a relationship is essential to creating a strong author brand which will in turn create interest in your book.

Defining Your Brand

Which of these do you most relate to?

What type of writing do you do? Is it fiction, non-fiction, children’s books or memoire?

What is your genre? Is it romance, thriller, or sci-fi?

What is your personal style? Are you outgoing or introspective, high-energy or peaceful?

What message do you want to convey in your writing?

What message do you want to convey in your social media or blog posting?

What is your story? What is your background and why do you want to write?

What colors do you want as part of your personal brand?

Professional Images

Professional images can help to solidify your author brand. A picture also tells a story of who you are. The colors in your images can be used in your website or social media posts. Having good quality images goes a long way. Professional photographers can be pricy but they may be worth it to you. Do you have a family or friend with a knack for taking pictures? If they turn out, they can save you some money.

"Simply put, your brand is your promise to your audience."
