Asking for Reviews

For a new author, reviews are important to move from the support of family and friends to a wider network of readers.

We all know that when we are purchasing something we can’t hold in our hands, reviews are important. They provide us with insights on whether what we are considering purchasing is worth the money. Today, more than ever, reviews are the go-to for many online shoppers.

To take the sales of Northern Escape beyond the incredible response I had from family and friends, I needed to ask those same people to consider writing a review. They were all very generous in sharing their excitement for the story itself and I am so thankful that I had written a book that they truly enjoyed. I believed that they wanted to help me further but were shy about posting a formal review.

So, today, almost one month after my book launch, I posted the following on both Facebook and Instagram.

Would you be willing to leave a review for Northern Escape?

Reviews will be what will encourage a stranger to take a chance on reading it.

To make it easier, I’ve provided a link to where you can leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/review/create-review/?channel=awUDPv3&asin=1777523109&ie=UTF8&

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58383034

Remember, a review can be as simple as saying, “I loved it!”

Thanks so much.

Cindy

I hope and believe this to be a non-pressure ask that makes it easy for them to help.

I think the timing of this request is critical. It can’t be too soon—you need to give people a chance to read it and enjoy it for themselves without the pressure of worrying about what they might say in a review. The honest comments and texts that I received without prompting were so special to me. But, it also can’t be too late, or they will have forgotten bits and pieces of the stories and how they reacted to them.
