Why I Don’t Believe in Writer’s Block Explained
I saw an Instagram post by Jamie Kern Lima, founder of IT Cosmetics, where she talks about why people experience Writer’s Block. She learned from a friend that people get stuck when they write because they edit themselves before they create.
Hearing this was a light bulb moment for me as it explained why I do not believe in it.
My first foray into writing occurred when I challenged myself to complete Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month), where you are encouraged to put your inner editor aside and get words on the page. It is as simple as that. Get words on the page; you can edit them later. If you do that, you have something to work with and never have a blank page staring back at you.
If you are looking for a motivational book, consider Jamie Kern Lima's book Believe It. I listened to the audiobook (sped up to save some time) and loved it. Jamie is a sweet woman who, through an incredible work ethic and a belief in herself and her products, became the first female CEO of L’Oréal. She sold IT Cosmetics, a company she started from scratch, for $1.2 billion. Wow. It is an incredible story, and what I love is that she has stayed true to herself and who she is.
